Figure 1: Diagram of annexin V function in apoptosis. During apoptosis, phosphatidylserine (PS) is translocated from the inside of the cell to the outer membrane
Annexins are traditionally thought of as calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding proteins, but recent work suggests a more complex set of functions. More than a thousand proteins of the annexin superfamily have been identified in major eukaryotic phyla, but annexins are absent from yeasts and prokaryotes.
This serves to block Annexin V-FITC binding sites and thus demonstrates the specificity of Annexin V-FITC Fluorescent conjugates of annexin V are commonly used to identify apoptotic cells. The human vascular anticoagulant annexin V is a 35–36 kDa, Ca 2 +-dependent phospholipid-binding protein that has a high affinity for the anionic phospholipid phosphatidylserine (PS). In normal healthy cells, PS is located on the cytoplasmic surface of the plasma membrane. 2021-03-18 2020-10-01 Annexin A2 concentrations were measured with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and correlations with clinicopathologic characteristics of OSCC were further evaluated. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, Kaplan-Meier curves, log-rank analyses, and a Cox proportional hazards model were used to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic value of annexin A2. 2001-07-15 Annexin VI has been implicated in mediating the endosome aggregation and vesicle fusion in secreting epithelia during exocytosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. GeneCards - The Human Gene Compendium The Annexin V conjugate may be used in Flow Cytometry or in other in situ detection methods to facilitate the rapid and early detection of cell surface changes associated with apoptosis. Annexin V binding to PS occurs only in dying cells, is calcium dependent, and reversible. Each Annexin V molecule binds approximately 50 exposed PS monomers.

Summary: Annexin VI belongs to a family of calcium-dependent membrane and phospholipid binding proteins.
Although annexin A1 and annexin A4 are expressed in the same cells of the ductal prostate epithelium, only annexin A1 is found extracellularly (Christmas et al., 1991). Annexin-1 is a 37 kDa protein that is part of the annexin family.

About the drug candidate The company’s biological drug candidate ANXV – a human recombinant protein, Annexin A5 – is intended primarily for acute treatment of patients with cardiovascular diseases, where vascular damage and inflammation are involved. : any of a family of proteins found in eukaryotes (such as mammals, birds, and plants) that bind to phospholipids in the presence of calcium —often followed by a number usually expressed in Roman numerals to indicate type Annexin V may play significant roles in cell physiology, including such processes as control of membrane permeability to calcium …

More than a thousand proteins of the annexin superfamily have been identified in major eukaryotic phyla, but annexins are absent from yeasts and prokaryotes. Annexin A1 has the longest history of reported extracellular activity.
